Travel Grant for ECR from the Global South

In order to enable promising young marine professionals from the Global South to take part in the Ecopath40 conference, two travel grants were offered by The Sea as a Good Cause, the philanthropy arm of the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ) with the support of the Leopold Hotel Ostend. Each grant - worth 3.000 EUR - includes travel, accommodation and registration fees. 

The aim of this grant is to enable two promising early career scientists from the Global South to participate in the EwE40 Conference, and gain expertise in the Ecopath software package, to promote contact between research groups worldwide and to stimulate professional careers across the globe, because our Ocean knows no borders.

The deadline for application was closed and the two early career scientists have been selected.

Additional Support

As a partial support, we allow scientists from lower income and lower-middle income countries (per World Bank definition) to register for the conference (including for courses) with the student rate (even if no longer students). 

The organising committee is trying to raise additional travel support funds for participants from low-income countries. We may also be able to help secure partial funding for participants from developing countries, depending on how much sponsorship we are able to raise. 

Sponsorship

We invite sponsorship at different levels:

We will use sponsorship funds to help cover expenses for the conference, for sponsoring participants from developing countries, and for student awards. Any remaining funds post-conference will be used for the further development of the Ecopath with Ecosim software through the not-for-profit research association, Ecopath International Initiative (EII) Barcelona, Spain. EII reports to the Ecopath International Research and Development Consortium, which also oversees the Ecopath40 conference and courses.

We acknowledge sponsorship with logos on this website, on the conference welcome screen (displayed before and after sessions and during breaks), on conference banners, and by mentioning sponsors at the opening and closure sessions.

Sponsorship can be paid via the Eventbrite on the Registration page as a Donation. The confirmation email will include an invoice and receipt.
